Claypit Hill School Improvement Plan 2011/2012

The School Council met on the following dates:  11/2/10; 12/7/10; 1/11/11; 2/8/11; 3/8/11; 4/5/11; 5/3/11. The School Improvement Plan was submitted to School Council members on 6/6/11 for their review.

We spent the first meeting reviewing the School Improvement Plan from the previous year, discussing feedback on the anti-bullying policy, discussing suggestions for the current school year.  Molly Faulkner joined the School Council in January 2011 as our community representative and we all agreed that greening/composting as well as continuing to build community at Claypit Hill would be our focus.

The School Council members agreed that we need to continue to develop a community where everyone feels welcomed, valued, understood and respected.  The Claypit Hill Student Council, comprised of fourth and fifth graders, asked to have an evening “Talent Show,”  requesting donations of $2.00 per  family for the purchase of blueberry bushes for our organic gardens.  The School Council felt that this was a great fit with the School Council goals – aligning our efforts toward greening and building community. The “Talent Show” was attended by approximately 100 Claypit Hill families and raised $215 to buy blueberry bushes.

We are working with Molly Faulkner and the district-wide greening committee to implement composting at Claypit Hill, with plans to implement in September 2011.

The School Improvement Plan for 2011/2012 will include:

  • Teachers will begin the year with plastic or metal bottles for water consumption, to be role models, encouraging  students to bring these rather than plastic, disposable bottles
  • Begin a tradition of fifth grade students presenting a tree/shrub to first graders in September
  • Proposal to decrease bottled water consumption by staff in staff room, using tap water
  • Create a School Survey (plan to do this every 2 years)
  • Begin full kitchen/cafeteria composting in bins constructed over the summer at Claypit Hill

Our action plan to implement these goals continues to align with the district goals for setting the proper climate that enhances learning and the emotional well-being for our entire school population.
