Claypit Hill News and More

January 27, 2025

Dear Claypit Hill Caregivers,

We hope that you and your children enjoyed the Pats win and a safe and enjoyable snowday. If snow is your thing, it sounds like we'll be getting another significant storm next weekend. Unfortunately, it is going to be so COLD this week. We're wondering if our kiddos will be able to play outside. Please do send in snow gear. We'll hope for the best!

We are excited to invite Claypit Hill caregivers to join a three-part conversation series focused on topics that are critical to raising children in today’s world: race and racism, healthy technology use, and bullying prevention. Through these sessions, families will gain insight into the real issues students experience at school, learn from school leaders and community experts, and receive practical tools to support thoughtful, respectful, and confident children. Together, these conversations offer an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and partner as a community in supporting our children’s social, emotional, and ethical growth.

Please respond to the RSVP below for this week's event. Please respond yes, even if you are leaning toward attending so that we can set up enough chairs.

Each part of the series will be hosted at Claypit Hill. The events will each begin at 7:00 PM. Please find information on the first evening below. Click on the button to view a flier for the entire series.
Let’s Embrace Race: Talking to Our Children About Race and Racism is a caregiver conversation designed for all Claypit Hill caregivers who want to better support their children’s understanding of race and racism. During this session, our Claypit Hill Leadership Team will share a general overview of the weekly issues our elementary school commonly encounters related to race, helping caregivers understand what students are experiencing in real time. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet Caroline Han, our Director of Diversity, Equity, and Belonging. Caroline will offer practical guidance on how to continue these conversations at home, equipping families with tools to foster curiosity, empathy, and learning while avoiding shame when children make mistakes. Together, we will explore how open, age-appropriate dialogue can create positive learning opportunities and support children as they grow into respectful, thoughtful community members. The evening will provide caregivers with opportunities to ask questions and to consider the questions of others. We hope you’ll be able to join us for this important community conversation.

Another Important Opportunity for Caregivers

Over the past several months, Wayland's Director of Diversity, Equity and Belonging, Caroline Han, has been working with Karen Blumenfeld and Heather Pineault (HRDEIC) and Jamele Adams to develop a four-part conversation series for parents and caregivers of WPS students focused on building skills for constructive dialogue across difference. Caroline is happy to share that our grant was recently funded!

We’re hoping to attract a diverse group of parents and caregivers, particularly those who are active in online community spaces. We'd love to have a significant representation from Claypit and we know that we have a parent community full of powerhouse caregivers who fill the above description.

Please read the information below and consider participating!

About the series:
This four-session workshop focuses on building practical skills for real-life and online conversations—especially when perspectives differ or conversations feel uncomfortable. Participants will practice empathetic listening, curiosity, and self-awareness while learning from one another in a supportive setting. Together, the group will select the discussion topics for each session.

By the end of the series, participants will leave with concrete tools to engage across differences without losing connection, helping to strengthen relationships and our broader Wayland community.
This program is sponsored by Wayland Public Schools and the Wayland Human Rights, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee (HRDEIC), and is made possible through the generous support of the Lydia Maria Child Fund of First Parish in Wayland.
